Uruguay is a fascinating country located on the south-east coast of South America. It gets its name from the river which runs on its west giving life and energy to a great people. “Uruguay” is a Guaraní word which means “River of the Painted Birds”.

As Uruguay lies between two of the largest countries in the region, Argentina  and  Brazil, most  Uruguayans believe they live in a  small country. But, it is just a matter of  perspective  and  relativity: Uruguay with its 176,220 sq km is larger than  England and  many other European  countries. 

 However, Uruguay has a population of just 3,4 million and almost 50% live in the  metropolitan  area of  Montevideo, the capital.
