What is a writing task?

A writing task is a listening activity done in order to achieve a goal e.g. a list of products to buy, filling in a form to check in at a hotel, writing a poem to express yourself, writing a letter of complaint, writing a C.V. to get a job, writing a letter of application for a job, writing a piece of news to inform people, writing an official interview form at a police station to investigate a suspect, writing a leaflet to sell a product or service, writing an email to get in touch with the people you know, texting to ask for a favor, writing a birthday card to greet a person, writing a script and storyline for a film project, writing an essay to pass an exam, writing a film review for a living, etc.
