Speaking Keep a class spoken journal

Sample speaking activities: Spoken journal

Main goals: Developing learner autonomy and reflecting about learning.

Time: 45 minutes

Materials: internet connection

Level of difficulty: medium / hard

Technical requirements: internet connection, PC, mail or a class online group (Mail at Aulas Virtuales) to send links.

 Warm-up/pre-speaking

             Script;

 

                   “Hi there. I am your new friend,Sally.  I want you to tell me about your studies at school.

                   Is English difficult? I am studying Spanish and it is not easy, especially the verbs.

                   What did you learn today?”


Speaking

1.   Discuss the importance of thinking about learning.  Present the task and ask  students to create 5 “Blabberize”, one every week for five weeks.

       Explore the website with students in class. Allow them to choose the picture they want to use.

 

Tell students to complete the following sentences to guide them:

            1.  This week we worked with ……………………. in class.

           2.  I liked ………………………..

           3. The most difficult part ……………………………

            4.  I learned ………………………………………….

            5. Three new words: …………………….     …………………      …………….

            6.  I need help with ……………………………………………………………….

2. Ask students to plan and then record their voices. After that they should send the link to the teacher's mail.

3.  Promise to keep the recordings private and to send feedback before the next session.

Post-speaking

Discuss feedback with students individually.
